Happy 11th Birthday, Allie!
Allie, our eldest daughter, turns 11 today. We had a chuckle since Allie is now older than me (she’s 11, whereas, as a leap-year baby, I’m only ‘technically’ 10.75).
Happy Birthday, Al!
Update: As per tradition, I picked up lunch, and stopped by her school for our Dad-daughter birthday lunch.

New family addition - “Bob” the cat
The girls finally wore me down enough….. We visited a few shelters and spent time with many different cats and finally found a keeper. We brought “Bob,” a 2+ year-old white / brown / gray tiger stripe male with a great, calm demeanor, home tonight. Here’s to hoping he gets acclimated and comfortable pretty quickly in his new home.
2007 Family Road Trip
We had a great visit with Grandpa Mike (Lupita’s dad) in Endicott, Washington; the girls loved seeing him and playing with many of his animals.
We also took the opportunity to see Yellowstone and revisit Deadwood, SD; Devil’s Tower, WY and Mt. Rushmore among other sites along the way. We rented a Ford Expedition and covered over 4,250 miles in under 2 weeks - check out an overview of the pictures of our “expedition in the Expedition” here as well as the geotagged version here.

Happy Birthday, Em!
Emily (our middle daughter) turns 9 today - and, per our multi-year tradition, I took her out for a Dad-daughter lunch on her birthday (as I do with each of my lovely daughters). I picked up Potbelly sandwiches (she’s a girl after my own heart - and stomach) and swung by Em’s school to picked her up for a picnic across the street in a nice shady park.
Happy Birthday, Emily.

The girls get autographs
Michael Peña very graciously gave the girls autographs and posed for a picture during filming of The Return. (They were very thrilled).
(L-R: Emily, Anne, Michael Peña, and Allie)
Update: Later in the evening, Allie and Emily also received Tim Robbins’ autograph.
All in all, a great Hollywood day for the girls.

Budding artist
I had a very nice low-key birthday celebration yesterday. My wonderful wife made my favorite dinner (chicken enchiladas with green sauce) and dessert (oatmeal raisin cookies). The girls gave me a wonderful assortment of handmade gifts. Allie’s gift was especially notable / touching as it was the first work she completed at her painting class at the Kaleidoscope School of Art.
I’m looking for a suitable frame and can’t wait to put it up in the den.

Making snowfriends
The crazy mix of snow and freezing rain this weekend made for treacherous driving, but it was perfect for building a snowman.
While I was flirting with a heart attack clearing the heavy snow off the driveway, Anne was playing happily and mischievously tossing an occasional snowball my way. Once I made the driveway passable, we got to work on our friend.
2007 Chicago Auto Show
My dad and I visited the Chicago Auto Show today and I snapped a few pictures of selected cars and posted them to flickr.
It was great to see the improvements in many domestics. If I was in the market for something new, the Australian-sourced, Holden-based Pontiac G8 would be a contender.
