Highlights: In the penultimate race of the season, Hamilton had the opportunity to clinch the championship starting from pole. In changing weather conditions (rain) and with badly worn tires, he slid wide on the entrance to the pits and ended up in the gravel trap. With Hamilton scoring no points and his closest competitors, Alonso and Räikkönen, coming in 2nd and 1st, respectively, there is only a seven point spread in the championship going into the last race of the season.
