Lake Geneva, September 2006

Lake Geneva Sept 2006

September 11th marked our 13th wedding anniversary. Lupita and I had talked about flying away alone somewhere to celebrate, but we decided to have a family getaway instead. As always, good old Lake Geneva was nearby, convenient, and fun. In addition to getting their fill of the hotel pool, the girls enjoyed some beachcombing. (More pics here).

Currently reading…

As is typically the case, I ran across some good references to a couple of interesting books in a few of my magazines.

Luckily, the local library had them.

I started Innovation first, but it didn’t immediately hook me….whereas Long Tail got me from the start.

Great simple little tool: WebShot

I ran across a great little Windows tool that fills a need I’ve had for some time.WebShot: A Website and Webpage Screenshot Thumbnailing Utility

Simply enter an URL and WebShot will generate a JPG, PNG, GIF, or BMP of the resultant Web page. This is especially useful when you’re looking at a page that scrolls over multiple screens. It’s free (but do pass along a donation to Nathan Moinvaziri, the tool’s creator) and the download is under 500K and includes a nice, simple InnoSetup installation.

WebShot does the trick and it’s highly recommended.

2006 F1 Round 15 of 18: Italy (Monza)

Highlights: Alonso penalized for supposedly blocking Massa during qualifying (dropping his grid position from 5th to 10th); Räikkönen winning pole over Schumacher by 0.002 sec; Alonso’s engine blowing on lap 46; the improved pace of the Sauber BMWs; Robert Kubica getting his first podium in only his third race; and, the big story of the day, Michael Schumacher announcing his retirement from F1 after this season.Alonso’s lead over Schumacher is reduced to 2: 108 to 106 and Renault is now behind Ferrari in the constructor’s championship: 168 to 165.

It should make for a very interesting next three races to wrap up the season.

Race result:

1. M. Schumacher (Ferrari)
2. Räikkönen (McLaren-Mercedes)
3. Kubica (Sauber-BMW)

Next up: Chinese Grand Prix, 01-Oct, 12:30 AM CST pre-race live on SpeedTV.

Geotagged Sunday Morning Barrington Drive

Picture geotagging is very cool.

This morning, on my ritual Sunday Barrington drive, I decided to take a lot of pics to later drop on the map in flickr.

It’s not as accurate as I’d like, but when you see the map for the set, it’s a pretty neat visual summary of my path (I start at bottom near Higgins and Old Sutton, then wind my way around in a clockwise direction).

Summer’s End

Anne's first day in Kindergarten

With Labor Day in a couple of days, Anne completing her first week in Kindergarten, and Allie and Emily completing their second week in school, Summer’s officially over.

The steadily dropping temps and the gradual color shift of the burning bushes in front of the house remind me that Fall’s just around the corner.

Tony Bennett - Ravinia 2006

Had a great evening out tonight with some members of the InstallShield Alumni Association. It’s always great to see (and hear) Tony, and it was wonderful to get together with some old friends and former co-workers.
