Montréal F1 with the boys…. 1990

I was rummaging through some old pictures recently and ran across this one of the boys in Montréal. I wasn’t quite sure about the year (since we went to a few of these….Detroit, Phoenix, Montréal, etc. in the ’90s)…. in looking over some of my old Formula 1 programs, I have Canadian ones from 1990 and 1995 (that’s the Olympic stadium over Rusty’s head in the background)….and this was most likely 1990.In the picture above (L-R): me, Kurt Thaus, Mike Progler, Rusty Filtz (with the weasely mustache and chicken legs), my brother George, and John Toomey.
During my next dinner outing with George, Kurt, and John in mid-April, we’ll need to firm up plans to make the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix (handbrake turns in rented vans, steaks at Gibby’s…).
Interesting, recent reads
“Moto’s Mojo: Motorola’s new Pebl marks the triumph of design at the venerable company. But is it magical enough to become the next touchstone of telecom, or will people just skip it?”
“A Prescription for Innovation: The Mayo Clinic’s new SPARC lab is driving experimentation at the frontier of health care. How? By getting physicians to think more like designers”
“Simple Minds - Here’s a clue for product designers: The key to making smart stuff is including more features, not fewer” (seems like a counterpoint to 37signals‘ “less as a competitive advantage” philosophy)

AlEmAn

A quick pic tonight of (counter-clockwise) Allison (in glasses), Emily, and Anne immediately after long-overdue haircuts for all three.
More critters out back…

While backing up to a forest preserve has some occasionally trying animal moments, it’s great to look out and see the occasional deer herd grazing in the field.
Guilty pleasures: Target Jalapeno Cheddar chips

Lupita and I are absolutely hooked on Archer Farms (Target’s house brand) Jalapeno Cheddar chips. Sure, not the healthiest snack in the world (zero g trans fat!), but they certainly go great with the Roasted Red Pepper and Smoked Gouda grilled cheese sandwiches we’ve gotten into the habit of making lately.
Work on Sears Centre progressing…
I happened to be passing through Prairie Stone (a business park across the expressway from our house) this morning and drove by the new Sears Centre arena that’s being built. It’s definitely taking shape and looks to be on target for the scheduled opening this Fall.
Time for the Winter wheels to come off
The official arrival of Spring triggered the move from my dedicated Winter wheels and tires (BMW OEM Style ‘29′ in 16″ x 7″ with 225/55R16 Bridgestone Blizzak LM25 ….at right above) to my ‘rest of the year’ set (BMW OEM Style ‘32′ in 17″ x 8″ with 235/45R17 Yokohama Avid H4S…at left above). With these wheels on the wagon, I’m reminded of my old 540.
2006 F1 Round 2 of 18: Malyasia

Highlights: Pretty much Fisichella from start (pole) to finish - interesting results with the primary drivers from a couple teams taking a backseat to their teammates: Alonso (2nd), Renault primary to teammate Fisichella (1st); Michael Schumacher (6th), Ferrari primary to teammate Massa (5th)….up until the last corner, I expected Ferrari to put into play some ‘team orders’ to change the order a bit.Race Result:
1. Fisichella (Renault)
2. Alonso (Renault)
3. Button (Honda)
Next up: Australia on 2-Apr (Live coverage on Saturday 1-Apr 9:30 PM CST pre-race on SpeedTV)
