Snow on Deck

We had another bit of snow last evening and another thin coating of white on everything. I looked out onto our deck this morning to find this cool abstract scene.

Thanksgiving Bondathon!

Bless SpikeTV…I love it when they do back-to-back Bond movies.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Another year almost over… all the best to you and yours for a very happy thanksgiving.

First measurable snow of the season

I woke up this morning to an unexpected sight outside - a nice thin blanket of snow. Unexpected for me, since I went to be early last night (nagging cold / flu) and missed the late news and weather report. With Thanksgiving tomorrow, it’s a nice reminder of the season.

UPDATE: with a little morning sun, all traces of snowfall were gone by lunch time. Oh well, here’s to hoping for a white Christmas.

Currently enjoying: Rush R30 - 30th Anniversary Tour

I always have been and always will be a huge Rush fan. As cliche as it sounds, Rush is the soundtrack for many moments in my life - the first time I was introduced to 2112 as a wide-eyed seventh-grader back in 1976; the many hours spent in front of the turntable with each album trying to figure out the songs on guitar; the weekend Lupita and I were in Toronto and visited the Orbit Room (a club co-owned by guitarist Alex Lifeson); the Vapor Trails concert (3rd row!) I attended at Milwaukee’s Marcus Amphitheater in July 2002. I know I’m occasionally mocked for my love of Rush (”..salesman!!” - you know who you are…. ;-> ), but it’s a guilty pleasure I continue to enjoy in the privacy of my car or on the iPod.

Today, “R30″ was released and, of course, I had to run over to the local BestBuy to pick it up. R30 is a dual DVD set featuring Rush’s Frankfurt, Germany concert in September 2004, recorded near the close of their 30th anniversary tour and includes some rare and classic peformance footage and interviews. It’s just more stuff that makes me enjoy these guys and their music all the more.

I can’t wait for the next studio release.

Serendipity

I was at home alone with Annie this morning and was doing a bit of channel surfing (didn’t feel like doing too much since I was nursing a cold I caught from Annie) and started watching Serendipity with John Cusack and Kate Beckinsdale.

It may be typically sappy Hollywood to most, but it never fails to stir the romantic in me (maybe it was the cold medicine coursing through my veins today). I always enjoy John Cusack and the soundtrack is great - especially January Rain by David Gray. There’s another orchestral main theme used throughout the movie, but unfortunately it doesn’t show up on the soundtrack.

Allie turns nine today

Allie, our eldest daughter, turns nine today. Happy Birthday, Al!

We just finished a pancake breakfast at home - and I think I just started a new birthday tradition. The girls always want their pancakes in different shapes and this morning I decided that I’d make numbers, corresponding to each of their ages (9, 7, and 4).

Quite a hit. (I didn’t make one for Lupita’s age, since I didn’t make enough batter ;-> ).
