Currently reading…

This summer, I’ve rediscovered how much I enjoy reading. I’m a voracious magazine reader (I know that doesn’t ‘count’) – especially my car and tech mags – and I’ve finally polished off a few of the books I bought a long time ago and have been ‘meaning to read’.

Recently, a chance reference in a magazine turned me on to a couple of very interesting books – interesting for me in light of the events of the past year or so – changes in my professional life and my pursuit of overall ’simplification’ and ‘zen-like calm’.

Flow: The Psychology of Optimal Experience (Steps toward enhancing the quality of life) and Creativity: Flow and the Psychology of Discovery and Invention, both by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi.

No, I’m not wearing togas and shopping for beads – the books aren’t as ’self-helpy’ or ‘touchy-feely’ as the titles may suggest. They’ve really hit home since they reinforce / resonate with the hours of deep conversation I’ve enjoyed with a few of my very close colleagues / friends over the past year (you know who you are).
