2005 F1 Round 7 of 19: Europe (Nürburgring)

Say what you will about the rules changes this season… I can’t remember a more exciting set of races. F1 is actually gripping to watch these days…it’s refreshing to see different faces in different positions in each race - teams making incremental advances.

Today was no different - Kimi Räikkönen dominated until the last lap, when his right front suspension exploded on the last lap (he flat-spotted his right front tire midway through the race which caused excessive vibrations in the right front suspension).

Fernando Alonso was right there to pick up his 4th win (and 6th podium). Next up, Montreal on 12-Jun.

MTV Moment

I’ve been hearing a cool song in constant rotation on the radio recently, then saw the band on Saturday Night Live a few weeks back: the band / song: Coldplay /’Speed of Sound’. I know Coldplay’s been around for a while, but nothing has really caught my attention until now.

So, naturally, I did a bit of investigation on iTunes to hear some more off their new / upcoming album. When I visited the Colplay page on iTunes, a video of another song, ‘The Scientist’ was available - this didn’t surprise me much (i.e., a video available via iTunes) since Melvin tipped me off to this new feature in iTunes 4.8 a few weeks back.

So, I decided to watch the video - great song, great video and the experience seemed natural. It reminded me of another time at the end of 1981 when I was enthralled by MTV - the format allowed me to experience new music in a great new way. I’ve long since abandoned MTV (and VH1, for that matter), since it’s anything but music television these days. After the video in iTunes ended, I got an eerie feeling that this was just like those early days on MTV, except now I could control what I wanted to watch and when - and iTunes seems like the perfect, natural vehicle for this.

Now, just waiting for the inevitable music videos on the new iPods.

2005 F1 Round 6 of 19: Monaco

There’s no place more magical in racing (in F1, at least) than Monaco. A personal goal is to someday attend all Grands Prix during a season (I’m still planning that bank robbery for funding) - but, if I only had the opportunity to go to one ’special’ race, Monaco would be it.

F1 is not immune to the force of the Star Wars empire - as is evidenced by George Lucas, in the photo above, trying to cram his not-so-svelte frame into the tight cockpit of an F1 car. Apparently, Star Wars was the main event down the coast at Cannes and the Red Bull cars were sporting Star Wars livery.

Next up, the Grand Prix of Europe (at the Nurburgring in Germany) is next Sunday (only a week hiatus between races).

Stop and smell the flowers

Flowers at the Office

The building management at the office really does a great job of beautifying the area around the building. Every morning as I walk from the parking lot to the building entrance, I pass by an explosion of color. It never fails to make me smile and remind me to stop and smell the flowers.

More color after the jump.

2005 F1 Round 5 of 19: Spain (Catalunya)

Once again, variety is the spice of life (and Formula1 racing)….the results of Spain 2005 as follows:

  1. Kimi Räikkönen (McLaren-Mercedes)
  2. Fernando Alonso (Renault)
  3. Jarno Trulli (Toyota)

Four different teams in the top six, and not a Ferrari among them (Barichello in 9th; Schumacher out in lap 46 with tire punctures) - very different from last season.

Up next, Monaco on 22-May-2005. And, this time, we’re back to having live coverage on SpeedTV, instead of CBS.

We all scream for ice cream…

Ice Cream and Great FriendsWe always have a great time visiting the Toomey family - and tonight was no exception. The kids ate first and then shuffled down into the basement to watch The Incredibles. We then had that rare chance to enjoy and savor a nice meal and wonderful bottle of wine - with nice quiet conversation…. and no kids.

Even though we don’t get together as often as we’d like (time seems to slip by much too quickly between visits), it’s wonderful to see how comfortable the kids are with each other.

After dinner, the Toomeys introduced us to Capannari’s - an incredible homemade ice cream shop in Mount Prospect. The ice cream was fantastic - evidenced by the silence in the room (a rare event with six kids between us).

The wonderful warm weather means that another Toomey-Tokarski trip to KiddieLand isn’t far off…

The Tiger has landed

I didn’t run on the day of release to get it….but I did order it (along with iLife ‘05) shortly thereafter.

I don’t know about ‘200 features’ - but Spotlight and Dashboard are pretty cool….and I can’t wait to try out GarageBand…

Revisiting some old friends

I used to spend much, much time ‘making noise’ and acquired a number of ‘friends’ to help me make that noise. But, time passed and we lost touch.

Recently, I pulled a few of these friends out of storage to get re-acquainted and start some new conversations. Today, FedEx delivered Tiger along with iLife ‘05 (including an updated GarageBand).

Time to start trying to record some of those conversations.
