Site Changes

I used to think this site would be a nice, consistent, amalgam of home-grown elements that I created myself - my own little photo section, my own journal, etc… But, more and more, the various free Web services popping up out there are not only more functionally rich and ‘easier’, but they’re all free (or close to it). This turns the make vs. buy decision into a no-brainer.

I’ve taken the lead of friends like rdeetz and benhuh and have started to incorporate flickr into my plans. Instead of manipulating photos by myself, I’ll just let flickr do what it does best - and, as a result, I’m sure I’ll have more and more frequent updates.

I can’t wait for Trumba to go live so I can incorporate calendaring as well.

The only downside is giving up some of the consistency of experience - I haven’t yet figured out if flickr will let you apply a theme or template (like blogger does) to personalize that element of my extended site. Until then, I’m going to revise my overall site design to give the ‘appearance’ of consistency across the various site elements.

2005 F1 Round 2 of 19: Malaysia

Installment 2 of 18 in Malaysia finished today. Again, the season is promising to be very entertaining as evidenced by the results. Schumacher was at least able to get a couple points on the board for the season, after a pretty disappointing start in Australia.

2005 F1 Round 1 of 19: Australia

Formula 1 2005 season rules changes made for a pretty interesting inaugural race in Australia.

Quite telling are the results - not the usual Ferrari atop the podium. There was a Ferrari in second place - but it was piloted by Barrichello and not Schumacher. A great drive by Giancarlo Fisichella in the Renault - and a great team effort by Renault with a first and third finish.

Malaysia is next - Sunday, March 20 (televised live on SpeedTV very early on Sunday @ 1:30 AM EST).

Ah, the sweet sounds of F1

The Formula 1 season starts this weekend - I’m writing this after having watched the first round of qualifying for the Australian Grand Prix. Thank heavens for SpeedTV. The race is on live tomorrow night.
